Butter London Disco Biscuit

 - by Playing with Polish

I am always learning new slang terms from Butter London. In the 1970s a Disco Buscuit was a quaalude, but more recently it describes an ecstasy tablet. There you go – word of the day! :-)   I bought Disco Biscuit on our recent trip to Portland. The salesgirl at Nordstroms seemed amused by the name. She had to dig for a while in their display to find it, but I had to have it! It is a bright pink jelly with purplish-blue glitter (click on the picture to see the glitter detail).

Application was good, but it went on quite sheer (what one would expect from a jelly finish). I tend to like my polish opaque, but this lovely jelly is still pretty even with VNL :-) It is also quite thirsty. It needed two coats of top coat to achieve a glossy finish. Although it required too many layers, I think the payoff was worth it :-D Four coats and two coats of top coat shown.

PDX Polish

My husband and I just got back from a week in Portland, OR. We had a blast. We enjoyed hours of walking around and exploring the beautiful city. The vegetarian/vegan food and craft beer there is phenomenal :-D While we were there I picked-up a few of the new Butter London spring/summer colors (tax free baby!!).

I managed to catch a cold on the tail end of the trip. I feel like crud, but I will try to get some swatches up soon. I can’t wait to try these! Maybe a spot of color will make me feel better.

Christmas Stuff

 - by Playing with Polish

This year for Christmas my husband gave me a number of goodies from my wish list, but he also surprised me with some fun nail stuff. I recently organized my nail polish and labeled items that were “swatched,” “untried,” etc. He checked my nail polish bins and blog to determine what I didn’t already have, so he could decided what to get. He was right I didn’t have them, and I was so touched. I loved the research and thought that went into the gift! :-) I managed to break my thumbnail pretty badly yesterday (and attempted a repair), so hopefully I will still have have length to my nails. However even if I end up trimming my nails all the way down, my sappy self is cheered by my sweet husband. :-D I still wish I was a bit less clumsy though!

I am hoping to try my hand at a bit of frankening in the coming year. It seems like the glitter is going to make a huge mess, but it sounds like fun!

Butter London Knees Up

 - by Playing with Polish

On Wednesday evening my husband and I had planned to go to Whole Foods and get an eco-friendly Christmas Tree. Of course getting the tree calls for a classic holiday red! Knees Up is apparently British slang for drunken dancing at a party. That sounds pretty festive! Knees Up is a lovely, glowing metallic red. Yummy! Although with my red mani I was now in a holiday mood, our tree finding mission was not a success. All of the trees that were left were either  too dry, crooked or too short and fat for the space by our fireplace. We will have to try again this weekend. On the plus side, I would say the polish was a success :-) It reminds me of those shiny glass tree ornaments (we don’t have any to compare to though as we need to ensure that everything on our tree is fairly cat-proof or at least unbreakable). It is a beautiful color, and what says “Christmas” better than a really great red??

Butter London Blagger (another blue for Autism Awareness Month)

 - by Playing with Polish

Blagger is a medium blue crème from Butter London’s new spring/summer collection.  A quick internet search revealed that a blagger is a smooth talker. Although it is a beautiful blue, I did not find that Blagger was a smooth lacquer. I tried this swatch several times, but I had application issues each time. The formula was thicker than other Butter London polishes I have tried, and I had some control issues. Although it did smooth out with a top coat, application issues annoy me :-(

Application was so-so. It went on a bit thick and unevenly. Two coats and a top coat shown.

Butter London Lady Muck (Blue for Autism Awareness Month)

 - by Playing with Polish

Jasmine at Color Coated came up with the great idea to show blue manicures this month to promote autism awareness month. She is encouraging other beauty bloggers to do the same. I love blue polish, and and I am happy to join in promoting awareness of this important issue. I have a number of other fun blues lined up for this month, so stay tuned :-D

Lady Muck is from Butter London’s new spring/summer collection. It is a pale periwinkle blue with a silver shimmer. Butter London’s polish is always a great way to learn fun British slang. I googled lady muck and found that it describes a lady who thinks of herself as very high class when in reality she is anything but. I wouldn’t want to be a lady muck, but it is a fun spring color! :-)

I thought Lady Muck might be similar to BB Couture’s Blue Collar, but Lady Muck has much more grey in it and it a bit more shimmery. The are both great colors, but I think Blue Collar had a much better application.

Application was ok. The polish went on a bit thicker than other Butter London polishes I have tried. Strangely after 2 coats I still had a few bald spots, so I had to do a little touch up on them. 2+ coats and a top coat shown.

Butter London All Hail McQueen

 - by Playing with Polish

This week I am studying for midterms, but the sun is out so it was time for a quick photo session and blogging break :-)

All Hail McQueen is actually my first Butter London Polish. I’m not sure what I was waiting for?!? This pinkish-beige holo polish is a tribute to iconic fashion designer Alexander McQueen who sadly committed suicide earlier this year. The color is gorgeous, and the application was buttery smooth. Love it! :-D

Application was excellent, but a bit sheer. Three coats and a top coat shown.
