Nailtini You Call It Set
- by Playing with Polish
Nailtini worked with Mad Men’s amazing costume designer Janie Bryant to create this cocktail themed set of nail polishes. Rather than using retro nail colors like classic red, the lush fabrics of classic cocktail gowns inspired these stunning polishes.
French 75
This rich glittering gold really does remind me of fabric. Chunky glitter and a foil base create a textile texture. Although I don’t see this as being an everyday polish for me, it would be stunning for a special occasion or the fast approaching holidays!
This polish was a bit thick, but it still went on pretty well. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Deauville
Although I do own other silver foils like Orly’s Shine, this one is still worth getting. The foil texture is smoother than Shine’s, and the polish is very opaque. It is also a much brighter silver than any other silver polish I have. This makes sense since Nailtini describes it as platinum rather than silver. Deauville strikes me as quite a futuristic look. I love it!
Application was excellent. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Bourbon Satin
As the name would lead you to believe, Bourbon Satin is a luxurious shimmery golden brown. Very rich looking! I look forward to wearing this color again (although my husband has indicated that he would like to swipe it for his toenails
)!
Application was excellent. This one glides right on! Two coats and a top coat shown.
Stinger
This beauty was the most complex of the bunch, and of course the most difficult to photograph! In the bottle the duochrome (or should I say polychrome) effect is very pronounced. It appears to be a shimmery teal/eggplant purple/red/gold. On the nail the effect is not quite as strong, but it still has a good shift from blackened teal shimmer to purple. Mmmm, it is yummy!
Every polish in the You Call It set is something I would wear again
It is the perfect way to add some glamour to your fall look. This limited edition set is currently available at QVC for $20, or 360 Beauty for $25. Nailtini’s mini bottles are almost twice the size of OPI’s (7 ml vs 3.75) and the brushes feel like they are full-sized to me.

OPI Go Goth!
- by Playing with Polish
I love fall! The crisp cooler weather, apple and pumpkin pies, and holidays like Thanksgiving and Halloween!
I was excited when I saw this set, and knew I had to have it!
Obscurity
Obscurity is a matte black. It is kind of cool for Halloween, but not really my thing.
Application was uneven, and the results were so-so. From farther away it looked pretty cool, but upon close examination it was quite uneven. Two coats shown without a top coat.
Unripened
Unripened is a black base with fine teal glitter. In the bottle it looked like the glitter had a duochrome effect, but I didn’t really see this on the nail. I had hoped for more duochrome, but this is still a yummy color!
Application was very good. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Nevermore
Nevermore is a lovely shimmery purple! I have other shimmery purples for sure, but I don’t know how you could have too many!
Application was very good. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Suzanne asked how Nevermore compared to OPI’s Ink, so I took a comparison picture. I think the shimmer in Ink might be a tad bit more vibrant, but essentially they look the same to me.
Sanguine
Sanguine is a shimmery blackened red. I LOVE it!
This polish looks like glowing embers!!!
Application was very good. Two coats and a top coat shown.
The polish also came with a lace cuff bracelet that I gave to a friend. She regularly frequents a Goth club, so I figure she would get more use out of it! Overall I really like this set! I would absolutely love to have full-sized bottles of Sanguine and Unripened
If you love Halloween and lovely dark colors then Go Goth! is a must buy!
Sephora by OPI Rocker Chic
- by Playing with Polish
Rocker Chic is Sephora by OPI’s new fall collection. There are nine new colors. Here are the five that appealed most to me.
Do I Know You?
A pinkish-beige crème.
Application was very good. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Dating the Drummer
Based on the pictures and description on Sephora’s website, “sheer warm walnut with fine holographic glitter”, I was expecting something different. I would not describe the polish as particularly sheer, and I was hoping for more glitter. It is pretty, but subtle and not as exciting as I had hoped it would be.
Application was very good. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Rock His World
A dark brownish- red crème.
Application was very good. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Club Scene Queen
Smoky with fine teal glitter. Sephora describes this polish as being sheer, and it sure is! This polish had promise, and I would have really liked this one if it was more opaque.
Application was so-so. This polish is pretty sheer, and I had issues with bald spots. Even after three coats there is still a distinctive visible nail line
Three coats shown.
Just a Little Dangerous
A lovely metallic purple with pink and blue shimmer. It is no surprise that this one is by far my favorite!
Application was very good. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Overall this is a nice fall collection. I would have liked a bit more shimmer and glitter though! Given the name, I would have expected it to be a bit more edgy or fun.
Savina Marine Life and Black Pearl
- by Playing with Polish
I spotted these two beauties last time I was at Nordstrom Rack. I have never seen this brand anywhere else, but at $3.97 each I figured why not?!?
Marine Life
Marine is much more green than it appears in the pictures. My camera was really fooled by this one. I would describe it a teal that leans more towards green than blue. It is very bright and has an almost neon quality. It dried matte, so I decided to show it with and without a top coat.
Application was great & very opaque. I almost had full coverage in one coat. Two coats shown.
Black Pearl
Black Pearl is a shimmery duochrome grey/turquoise/purple. I wore this one for several days, and found that I kept looking down at my hands. This polish is mesmerizing!
Application was good. This polish is very pigmented, and again I almost had full coverage in one coat.
Two coats and a top coat shown.
Sephora by OPI Teal We Meet Again
- by Playing with Polish
Teal We Meet Again is from Sephora by OPI’s 2010 summer Havana Nights collection. In the bottle it shows a blue/green/teal duochrome effect (especially under the bright lights at our local Sephora). It is not as strong on the nail though. It applied as a dark shimmery teal. Very pretty!
Application was very good with full opacity in two coats.
Two coats and a top coat shown.
Finger Paints Heavenly Miracles Collection
- by Playing with Polish
If you are looking for a nail polish fix, but need to find something easy on the budget Finger Paints is a great way to go
During the month of May, Sally Beauty has Finger Paints on sale for $3.99 each!
Finger Paints has a ton of new colors! The Heavenly Miracles Collection consists of four colors and two glitters. Application was great on all of them, and with one exception I achieved opaque results in two coats. Dream a Little Dream did take me three coats.
Blissfully Blue
Blissfully Blue is a lovely pastel blue crème. Great application and opacity in two coats. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Dream a Little Dream
Dream a Little Dream is a pearly light blue. I did have visible brush strokes, and it took three coats for opacity. However, I was pleased with the results. Three coats and a top coat shown.
Add & Abstract
Add and Abstract is teal with a green shimmer. Very pretty! I wore this one for two days, and was quite impressed with the lack of wear!
Two coats and a top coat shown.
Artistic Azure
I could not get my camera to get this one right. Artistic Azure is a bit more green than the pictures show. A bluer leaning dark teal shimmer. Very pretty! Application was excellent. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Floatin’ on a Cloud
Floatin’ on a Cloud is a multi-colored glitter in a sheer base. It was a bit thick, but application was good. Two coats shown over Blissfully Blue (without a top coat).
Oh My Stars
Oh My Stars is a silver glitter in a clear base. Application was good. Two coats shown over Artistic Azure (without a top coat).
The colors might not be a the most original, but overall this is a good collection at a great price!
Orly ¡Viva! – Happy Cinco De Mayo!
- by Playing with Polish
Viva is a festive new collection for summer. Since it is “Latin inspired” I was not sure it would work on someone as pale as me. Also, I tend not to like most oranges. Overall I was surprised at how good these colors looked on me. I liked these a lot more than I thought I would!
The formula on all four is quite pigmented, but it varied a lot in application.
Orly Olé
Olé is a bright reddish-orange crème. Application was excellent! This one practically applied itself! Highly pigmented with full coverage in two coats.
Two coats with a top coat shown.
Orly Fiesta
Fiesta is a summery bright pink with pink micro glitter. Application was a bit gritty and thick. Highly pigmented with coverage in two coats. Glitter not as visible on nail as in bottle.
Two coats a top coat shown.
Orly Bailamos
Bailamos is a bright teal shimmer. Application was excellent with coverage in two coats. I wore this one for two days, and got a ton of compliments from both strangers and friends!
Two coats and a top coat shown.
Orly La Playa
La Playa is a dark blue crème. Application was a bit tricky on this one. It was thick and covered well, but was a bit hard to control.
Two coats and top coat shown.
