Piggy Polish Moonlight & Mistletoe
- by Playing with Polish
Moonlight & Mistletoe is a plum with pink and blue shimmer. In the bottle the blue shimmer showed much more than the pink and the polish appeared to be duochrome. On the nail the blue and pink look like they have a similar concentration, and there is no duochrome effect. I was hoping that the blue shimmer would be stronger on the nail. It looked amazing in the bottle – especially under the bright lights in Ulta. I like it, but I wish it were more blue, shimmery and “special.” Having said this, the bottle proved to be maddeningly photo shy!
Application was ok. Somehow it managed to be a bit thick and sheer at the same time. My husband asked if this was because it was a pedicure formula, but I suspect that is just marketing. However, I did find that it wore well. I wore this for 4.5 days before I got a chip. Three coats and a top coat shown.
Orly Cosmic FX – Galaxy Girl, Lunar Eclipse & Space Cadet
- by Playing with Polish
Orly’s much anticipated Cosmic FX collection includes six colors. I selected three that seemed the most interesting and displayed a duochrome effect. Each of these had a stunning glass fleck/foil finish. I absolutely love space themes, and could not wait to try these on!
Galaxy Girl
A lovely deep purplish-plum with teal colored flecks. This has a slight duochrome teal/dark pink.
Application was excellent. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Lunar Eclipse
A vibrant blue with purple/pink duochrome flecks. The duochrome is not as noticeable on the nail, but it is still a knockout!
Application was excellent. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Space Cadet
In a way Space Cadet was a bit like our trip to Italy – everywhere I turned there was something new and beautiful to photograph! No matter how I turned my hand Space Cadet was showing another side of its stunning personality!
This polish shows the most duochrome effect both in the bottle and on the nail. It is green/gold/rose/plum. WOW!
Application was very good, but a bit sheerer than the other two. Three coats and a top coat shown.
I really loved all of these polishes, especially Lunar Eclipse and Space Cadet. These are fun colors I will want to wear again and again! I think they are a must have!
Nailtini Amaretto Fizz
- by Playing with Polish
Amaretto Fizz is a shimmery duo chrome dark golden brown that shifts to a plum. When I bought it I thought the color was similar to OPI’s Meet Me on the Star Ferry. They do share some similar characteristics the bottle, but not on the nail. The OPI is more of a red leaning plum with blue and pink micro glitter, and the Nailtini is golden brown/brown plum with a shimmer finish.
I like amaretto as a Christmas treat, but I had never heard of or tried an Amaretto Fizz. My friend Veronica was kind enough to come over and help me make one
It was quite tasty, but much lighter and not at all similar in color to the polish! If you are interested in trying the drink, the recipe I used called for equal parts amaretto, orange juice and club soda (2 ounces each). Shake the amaretto and oj with ice in a cocktail shaker, then pour into a martini glass. Add the club soda last and enjoy! Mmm…
I wore this one for almost two days, and got a lot of compliments. It did not wear very well though. I had tip wear (visible in the pictures, especially on the ring finger) within a few hours of application!
Two coats and a top coat shown.
No-Miss Palm Beach Mauve
- by Playing with Polish
In honor of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, I am reviewing a nail polish that I picked-up at Whole Foods. I adore organic and natural products. I love our local farmers’ markets and Whole Foods, and often buy personal care products there. About six years ago I tried a nail polish from Whole Foods that was marketed as being natural and non-toxic. It had a name like Fairy Dust or something like that. That purchase was a mistake! Six years later I still remember that the application was streaky, and it had an uneven frosty finish. When it came time to remove it, I found that stuff was like cement! It was even harder to budge than the most stubborn glitter. Uggh! I threw it away, and gave up on “natural” nail polish. A few days ago I decided it was time to try again. I am glad I did!
No-Miss Palm Beach Mauve is a lovely crème that applied very smoothly. I almost had opaque coverage in one coat. This color is a beautiful spring shade that reminds me of OPI’s Dim Sum Plum. They are not dupes, but they are pretty close. No-Miss does not contain the Big Three or camphor. This is good stuff. I would be happy to grab another color on my next weekly shopping trip!
Unlike my previous experience, I found that I was able to remove this polish quite easily.
Two coats and a top coat shown.
