Glitter Gal 10 to Midnight

 - by Playing with Polish

Ahhh, I love holo polish! Glitter Gal’s 10 to Midnight is a dark grey linear holo polish. It’s a great color, and the holo is visible in most lights which is a big plus. The bottles may be small, but this is good stuff! So far all the Glitter Gals I have tried applied nicely and wore well.

Butter London Knackered

 - by Playing with Polish

Knackered,  extremely tired or a horse that is no longer able to work being rendered into glue or dog food, is a lovely polish. It looks like neither of those things to me. You can be assured that I will not be sending my bottle off to be made into glue! The Butter London website describes it as, “a sheer, twinkling oyster shade flecked with micro glitter particles.” I have no clue why they would describe the color as oyster. To my eye it is a silvery duochrome that shifts from purple to a greyish-green. It is also infused with very fine holographic glitter. Me like!! :-D

This polish is quite sheer. I used five coats , and I still have some VNL. Other than being sheer, the application was very good. Five coats really is a lot though. It might be a good bet for layering. Five coats and a top coat shown.

Nails Inc Fashion’s Night Out

 - by Playing with Polish

Fashion’s Night Out is a fabulous blue-grey metallic. It looks like a silvery gunmetal with a touch of blue in the bottle, but once on the nail the blue really comes out to play. This  is a really cool color! :-)

Application was excellent. This polish was quite opaque and almost provided full coverage in one coat. Two coats and a top coat shown.

Orly Androgynie

 - by Playing with Polish

Androgynie is from Orly’s Holiday Soireé collection. The combination of the sheer black base and the gold and multi-colored glitter make me think of New Year’s Eve. This is a fun color, and I got a lot of compliments while wearing it.

Application was ok. I would have liked the hex glitter pieces to have distributed more evenly (some nails got more pieces than others).  Three coats and a top coat shown.

Nails Inc. Trafalgar Square

 - by Playing with Polish

It took me a while to jump on the magnetic polish bandwagon, but boy am I glad I did! I thought it looked ok on other people, but I was not sure it was for me. In the bottle Trafalgar Square looks like a dark grey shimmer polish. I really love shimmery gray polish, so even if it was just that I would like this polish :-) But using the magnetic cap to create the chevron stipe effect is really easy, and it looks really cool! I was totally surprised but how much I like it! :-D I only bought Trafalgar Square, but I think I am going to buy the purple polish too (Houses Of Parliament)!

Application was very good. You have to apply a thin layer of polish on each nail, and then a thick layer. Right after applying the second layer you use the magnetic cap  while the polish is still wet (do one nail at a time). I accidentally touched the magnetic cap to my nails a few times, but I was able to patch that up fairly easily. Two coats and a top coat shown.

Have you hopped on the magnetic polish bandwagon? If so, which are your favorites?

Orly Rock Solid

 - by Playing with Polish

Rock Solid is one of the new polishes from Orly’s Mineral FX collection. It is a dark charcoal with s bit of silver shimmer and holographic glitter. Even with a top coat the polish has a textured finish. It reminds me of asphalt  with little bits twinkling in the sun. I mean it in the best possible way :-D  That may not sound pretty, but it is!

BB Couture Ares

 - by Playing with Polish

Ares is the  Greek god of war, and also a lovely dark grey polish from BB Couture’s Touch of Greece Men’s collection. Ares is a slightly bluish-grey with a touch of silver shimmer. The shimmer is hardly visible indoors, but it really comes to life in sunlight. Although this was marketed as a summer polish for men, I very much look forward to wearing it this fall! :D

Zoya’s Intimate Collection Part 2

 - by Playing with Polish

I reviewed the first half of Zoya’s Intimate collection before Spring Break. The new quarter started yesterday, and I am finally posting the second half of the collection.

Caitlin

Caitlin is a lovely bluish gray purple crème. Is similar to Kelly from last fall but much lighter.

Application was very good. Two coats and a top coat shown.

Dove

Just as the name would imply Dove is dove grey crème. It is a soft, elegant spring color.

Application was very good. Two coats and a top coat shown.

Marley

Marley is a pale lilac with a subtle silvery shimmer.

Application was a bit streaky, but it mostly leveled out by the third coat. A top coat took care of any remaining uneven spots. Three coats and a top coat shown.

Overall these are beautiful choices for spring. Zoya makes some of my favorite polishes, and these don’t disappoint! :-)

Zoya Kelly

 - by Playing with Polish

I should not complain. We have such good weather here in the Bay Area, but the last week and a half or so has been rainy and overcast. We need the rain, so that part is good but it makes it hard to take good nail polish pictures (I prefer to take them in natural light as I think it provides a more accurate representation of the colors). The sun decided to poke out from behind a cloud, so I took advantage of the brief photo opportunity.  Although I have a ton of bright new polishes lined up on my coffee table waiting to be swatched, I decided to do a stormy grey instead. Zoya’s Kelly is from their fall Wonderful collection. It is a beautiful bluish-grey and reminds me of a storm cloud! I love it! If I can’t have sunshine, I will happily take Kelly instead! :-D It looks a little darker in the picture than it does in real life, but the lighting conditions were not ideal.

Application was excellent. Two coats and a top coat shown.
