Glitter Gal Lizard Belly
- by Playing with Polish
Lizard belly has even more awesome holographic goodness than Marine Blue. Although both are polishes I will reach for again and again
Lizard Belly is a very dark green with linear holo. I love this color! It looks like green is going to be big this fall. This stunning green would be the perfect accent to any fall outfit
At 9ml Glitter Gal bottles are smaller than standard polish bottles, but they manage to pack a lot of glittery goodness into that small package.
Application was excellent. Two coats and a top coat shown.
I will be giving away both Lizard Belly and Marine Blue along with some other fun goodies from Kim at Overall Beauty in my Back to School giveaway (I go back to school in a week and a half
). My giveaway starts tomorrow, so please check back!
Orly Here Comes Trouble
- by Playing with Polish
Here Comes Trouble is another dense glitter from the new summer Pin-up collection. This one is a bright slightly yellow leaning green. Like Bubbly Bombshell it has a mixture of fine and hex glitters. While Bubbly Bombshell has a clear base, Here Come Trouble has a yellowish-green one. This a a fun color for summer!
Application was very good. This has a smooth finish for a glitter polish. It is similar to the recent foil finish polishes. Three coats and a top coat shown.
Zoya’s Intimate Collection
- by Playing with Polish
Sheesh, it feels like it has been forever since I wrote a blog entry! I have snapped a few manicure pics, but I have been really busy with school and they have not turned into blog posts
At any rate, the weather has been quite spring-like here this week. I have been dying to try Intimate, Zoya’s new spring collection. So here are the first of the six new shades. I will try to get the other three up in a few days.
Gemma
Gemma is a murky greyish-blue green with a blue and dark pink shimmer. It is a really cool color! I don’t really love it on me though.
Application was very good, but a tad on the sheer side. Three coats and a top coat shown.
Jules
Jules is a soft muted gold. I was unsure if I was going to like it or not since many golds are a bit too warm for me. This is cooler and softer though. I was surprised at how much I liked Jules! For me is a much more wearable gold.
Application was very good, but this one was also a tad on the sheer side. Three coats and a top coat shown.
Danni
Danni is a lovely violet with a pinkish shimmer. Mmmm, this is such a yummy spring color! I love it!!!
I got some other new polish today too, but this was a swatch that turned into a full manicure. The other colors will have wait a day or two
Application was excellent. Two coats and a top coat shown.
China Glaze Holiday – Peace on Earth & Jolly Holly
- by Playing with Polish
I feel like I am totally behind on swatching and posting
I am trying to catch-up! Here are two beautiful greens from China Glazes new holiday collection
Peace on Earth
I am not usually a big fan of olive greens. They don’t tend to be very flattering on me. Peace on Earth is an exception though! It is a beautiful glowing olive green with a golden shimmer. It is stunning, even on me!
Application was excellent, and it covered in one coat! One coat and a top coat shown.
Jolly Holly
An outstanding shimmery cool dark pine green. I love it! It looks a little more blue in the picture than it does in real life.
Also a one coater! Application was excellent, with coverage in one coat. One coat and a top coat shown.
Overall the gorgeous shimmery colors and awesome one coat application make these winners in my book! One coat application is such a great time saver, and especially great for the busy holiday season! What’s not to love?!?
Essie Vermillionaire & Pretty Edgy
- by Playing with Polish
In the Bay Area often some of the hottest days of the year are early in the fall. This afternoon it is expected that the high temperature will be 95. It seems like a good time to share pictures of some of summer beauties that I was too busy to swatch before now. Anyway, I think these particular polishes would be a great pop of bright color for fall!
Vermillionaire
A read leaning bright orange crème. I am not usually a huge fan of orange, but this is quite pretty.
Application was good, but a bit sheer. Three coats and a top coat shown.
Pretty Edgy
A medium green crème. This is a cool color!
Application was good, but a bit sheer. Three coats and a top coat shown.
Color Club Holiday Sets
- by Playing with Polish
It has been a busy week for me, and I haven’t had time to swatch while the sun was out. I just got some new holiday themed polishes that I can’t wait to share! I should have some time to write and take pictures tomorrow, so hopefully the sun will cooperate with me! Until then, here is a preview

Enchanted Holiday
Orly Tis’ the Season
- by Playing with Polish
Here are two beauties from Orly’s holiday collection Tis’ the Season. It seems way too early to be thinking about Christmas though!
Meet Me Under the Mistletoe
Meet Me Under the Mistletoe is a blue leaning forest green shimmer.
This polish was pretty opaque. I almost had full coverage in one coat. Application was very good. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Rockin’ Rocket
Rockin’ Rocket is wine colored with a gold shimmer. It is very festive! I am a bit confused about the name on this one. Rocket does not have any Christmas/holiday association for me. Rockin’ Rockette would make more sense! I double checked and my bottle says Rockin’ Rocket. Oh well, it’s still a beautiful color!
This polish was also pretty opaque, and I probably could have gotten away with one coat. Application was very good. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Overall these are fun holiday colors with great application. I am glad I added these two to my collection!
Orly Cosmic FX – Galaxy Girl, Lunar Eclipse & Space Cadet
- by Playing with Polish
Orly’s much anticipated Cosmic FX collection includes six colors. I selected three that seemed the most interesting and displayed a duochrome effect. Each of these had a stunning glass fleck/foil finish. I absolutely love space themes, and could not wait to try these on!
Galaxy Girl
A lovely deep purplish-plum with teal colored flecks. This has a slight duochrome teal/dark pink.
Application was excellent. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Lunar Eclipse
A vibrant blue with purple/pink duochrome flecks. The duochrome is not as noticeable on the nail, but it is still a knockout!
Application was excellent. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Space Cadet
In a way Space Cadet was a bit like our trip to Italy – everywhere I turned there was something new and beautiful to photograph! No matter how I turned my hand Space Cadet was showing another side of its stunning personality!
This polish shows the most duochrome effect both in the bottle and on the nail. It is green/gold/rose/plum. WOW!
Application was very good, but a bit sheerer than the other two. Three coats and a top coat shown.
I really loved all of these polishes, especially Lunar Eclipse and Space Cadet. These are fun colors I will want to wear again and again! I think they are a must have!
Alessandro Green Green Baby
- by Playing with Polish
Green Green Baby is from Alessandro’s Summer of Love collection. This is another gem that I picked-up in Germany. It is a vibrant olive green with a copper shimmer. Very pretty!!!
Application was excellent. This polish just glides right on
It was almost opaque in two coats, but I added a third for maximum opacity.
Three coats and a top coat shown.
Essie Fall Collection 2010
- by Playing with Polish
It’s in the high 80′s today in the beautiful Bay Area, so it is difficult for me to get into a fall mood. To be honest my thoughts are drifting more towards lemonade and cranking the A/C. In spite of the heat it is time for all of new the fall collections to come out.
This collection of Essie minis is a Nordstrom Beauty Exclusive.
Sew Psyched
Sew Psyched is a greyish-green with a slight shimmer. The promo pictures made it look like a fall version of a mint green, but it doesn’t really strike me as a mint in person. It’s a bit of a strange color, but I like it.
Application was very good. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Merino Cool
This color is a bit harder to describe, as it seemed to change depending on the lighting. I saw it as being a lavender/grey/beige. It reminds me of Sephora by OPI’s Metro Chic.
Application was very good. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Little Brown Dress
Dark chocolate crème – sounds yummy doesn’t it? This one was surprise. In the bottle it looked a bit like chocolate syrup. Tasty perhaps, but not a very exciting color. I really liked it on though! Something about it strikes me as sexy and sophisticated like a deep red, but a with a twist. It is probably not a color I would have gravitated towards on the shelf, but I quite like it! It is much more luscious in real life. The pictures don’t do it justice!
Application was very good. Two coats and a top coat shown.
Limited Addiction
A sexy cool toned dark red crème. Some reds don’t work for me, but this red looked great on my skin tone!
Application was very good (in spite of a wiggly kitty who insisted on sitting on my lap and “helping” me). Two coats and a top coat shown.
Hey, it may not be fall yet but if I close my eyes with the A/C on I can imagine myself on a crisp fall day!
Hopefully fall will wait a little while though, as I still have a few spring and summer collections to swatch and review!
What do you think of Essie’s new fall collection?
