Zara is a cool light purple with a strong golden shimmer (their website identifies it as a cool color, but it is much cooler in the bottle than on the nail where it really warms up). The color went on pretty sheer, and after three coats I still have a bit of a visible nail line. My first reaction to this was the the golden shimmer was too warm for my skin tone. It is a lovely color, but I wish the shimmer was silver or maybe rose gold! I am a sucker for pretty much anything in rose gold. After wearing this around for a day, it is growing on me. However, I still think I would have preferred it with a different shimmer color. I think this would look great on someone who is darker or more tan than I am. :-)
Application was very smooth, but a bit sheer. Three coats and a top coat shown.
Nike is an awesome purple from BB Couture’s Touch of Greece collection for women. The color is a somewhat reddish-purple with red and blue shimmer. Since I adore both purple and sparkly polishes, it’s not a huge surprise that I like this one too! It’s a great color, and as per usual with BB Couture the formula is great too.
Application was very good. Three coats and a top coat shown.
I have yet to get the hang of nail art. I have nail art polishes and a Konad stamping set, but I haven’t had any results worth sharing here. I also love Orly’s Lunar Eclipse. I already reviewed Lunar Eclipse and I wanted to wear it without “wasting” a manicure that I could not write about. Enter the perfect solution – trying Crayola Nail Stencils. :-)
Application was pretty good (please note that I did not use Crayola Nail Art pens as recommended). I did have a bit of trouble removing the first stencil. It had stronger adhesion that I expected, and it came off in little pieces. I ended up using a pair of tweezers to remove the last few stubborn bits. I did my left hand second since that is that one that would end-up in my pictures. I decided to place the stencils so that the whole design area would be on my nails, and the edges would be on my skin. I though it might make them easier to peel away. Although it still came off in pieces, the second stencil did come away much more easily. Overall, the designs are cute and the application was fairly easy! I will be trying these again.
Ares is the Greek god of war, and also a lovely dark grey polish from BB Couture’s Touch of Greece Men’s collection. Ares is a slightly bluish-grey with a touch of silver shimmer. The shimmer is hardly visible indoors, but it really comes to life in sunlight. Although this was marketed as a summer polish for men, I very much look forward to wearing it this fall!
Application was excellent. Two coats and a top coat shown.
In April I wrote a post about the Fresh Air Fund, a non-profit organization that sends low-income kids from New York City on two week vacations so they can enjoy some fresh air and play outside. For many of these kids this is their first chance to venture outside of the city. I just received an email update from this worthy organization. The good news is that 650 loving, generous families were able to provide kids with the opportunity to enjoy life outside of the city. However, as the summer draws to a close the Fresh Air Fund only has one week left to find 200 more host families.
Helping kids enjoy what many of us take for granted is a rewarding experience. More than 65% of all children are reinvited to stay with their host family, year after year.
“It is rewarding to see the smile on our Fresh Air child’s face as she enjoys the simple things we take for granted…”
“We made s’mores and hot dogs over the fire. I’ve never cooked outside before!”
Thank you so much to everyone how has been able help in any capacity – by serving as a host family, donating or by simply spreading the word. Please click here to learn more about becoming a host or call (800) 367-0003!
